The chart below was knocked up a few years back when Loose Fit was a real hold in yer hand Zine for one whole issue.
I thought with the forthcoming Bez gig this Saturday night it might be a good time to revisit the
Baggy & Baggy Not Baggy™ Top Ten that Pev and I knocked up.
“Don’t need no skin tights in my wardrobe today”
We are not quite sure how to define the Baggy sound.
It was usually breakbeat driven (Funky Drummer or the Soul II Soul Shuffle, delete as applicable) had Indie and House elements fused together and was mostly performed by run of the mill bandwagon jumpers.
In truth at the time Baggy really used to really piss me off. The folks at the dance who I wished were not at the dance, danced when the Baggy tunes came on. When not doing time, or shoplifting they could be found at House nights knocking out E’s, dancing oddly and swearing.
I remember overhearing one Baggy loving dealer complaining loudly about the ‘Blacks ruining House”, I’d hazard a guess he didn’t like queers either.
